Silver Linings PlaybookSilver Linings Playbook

by Matthew Quick

Pat Peoples is an optimist.

He believes in second chances, silver linings and happy endings. He believes in self-improvement, the power of positive thinking and god’s grace. He believes that the movie of his life deserves to have a happy ending.

Tell me if such unapologetic optimism is making you sick? Even if it does, you should still give this book a chance. For it is beautifully written, kind, happy, sad, sweet and everything in between.

I’m finding it hard to write about this book, because I love it so much. I do! I love this book! It hasn’t happened to me in a while, and I’m not quite sure what to do with this feeling. I’ve gotten so used to reading piles of books at a time, since no single book seems to grab my attention. And then this gem comes along, consumes my time, my thoughts, my feelings, and I never want it to end. I want to move to Philly, live with Pat, his stoic mother, his grumpy father, the crazy Tiffany and soak in their world, for it is wonderful.

Sadly, the book did end. All that’s left for me to do is go on a quest to persuade as many people as I can to read the story of Pat Peoples and see their own silver lining.

Silver Linings Playbook is available now in the Djupedal library (FIC QUI).

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard LuckDiary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck

by Jeff Kinney

Finally we’re back on track! The last couple of books were, quite frankly, disappointing, and I was afraid that Kinney lost his magic touch. But he’s back to his hilarious self with this latest volume of Greg Heffley’s misadventures.

The Day the Crayons QuitThe Day the Crayons Quit

written by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Oliver Jeffers

Award-winning authors Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers unite to create this tale of the crayons that decided to unite and restore equality among colors. Sounds like a rather big premise for a rather small children’s book, and, indeed, the fight turns out to be big, but peaceful – each crayon gets a chance to express their concerns in an orderly fashion.
